User Reviews about Sentry Natural Defense Natural Flea and Tick Squeeze-On for Dogs and Puppies 15-Pound and under
This is a great product,it smells awesome and it is much better than putting chemicals on your dog! -- Great product!
I researched the heck out of this product. Great reviews and I agree! The smell only bothers me when I already have a headache otherwise it is just fine. A little strong at first but fades quickly enough. It does leave a greasy streak down her back which doesn't always brush out and slightly yellows her white fur. The PLUS side is that I haven't seen hide nor hair of any fleas or any other unwanted insects. Our holistic vet said he didn't have much luck with it, but approved the use of it. (I run Everything past him). We tried it and are very happy with it. We live in Chicago area and go up to Wisconsin, no problems yet! The reviewer that recommended using half 2x a month was genius. During peak mosquito times I also pat some Burt's Bees Natural Insect repellent on her. I highly recommend this product! Natural, no evil chemicals! -- Natural flea control
From other reviewers, I knew to expect a strong smell from this product, so I applied it on my beagles outside. I actually enjoy the scent - especially the cinnamon/clove aspect of it (not so much the lemongrass combination, although I accept it because of its insect-repelling properties). I could smell it in the house fairly well for the first day or so, and after that the odor fades.
As far as how it works - I think it does/can work well if you do not have a flea infested area. One of my beagles had fleas, not badly, but enough to itch, even while on the cheap flea meds from the store. After I put this product on her, I noticed she was no longer itching. Great! I thought. Then we took our two beagles over to my husband's parents' house. They have three beagles and six cats running around, and it is shady so I am pretty sure it is a flea haven. Now both of my beagles have fleas on them. I split the third application between the two of them and am waiting to see if it helps. (UPDATE: It seems to have helped - they do itch every now and then but not like they did when I brought them home. I think I will order it again until I see a problem. It works just as well for us as the cheap chemical poisons from the store).
Conclusion: if you are willing to treat your yard with flea repelling plants and/or use nematodes and/or DE so that your dogs are not constantly getting new fleas on them when they go outside, I think this product will work.
I think it is effective enough that its benefits outweigh the negatives of chemical poisons.
I have actually been thinking about creating this flea treatment at home - the ingredients are pretty straight-forward. All it would take is vanillin and the active oils in the right concentrations, which are clearly listed on the label. -- I want to love it...
